ABOUT THE ARTIST

Extracts taken from BBC Leeds Website
Born in 1978, Catherine Jane Corfield
(married name Catherine Campbell) is an international selling artist. Based in
Leeds, she regularly exhibits in and around Yorkshire and sells her works
through galleries, at fairs and exhibitions around the UK and through her own
website.
Catherine
studied Fine Art at University and was awarded a BA Honours in Fine Art degree
in 2002. Continuing to develop her understanding and knowledge of the art world
Catherine then attended the University of Greenwich in London gaining a Masters
in Arts Management in 2005.
Catherine has been influenced by all the many great artists past and present in
particular abstract artists such as Miro, Kandinsky and Picasso and
Impressionist Renoir and Van Gogh.
These
influences are evident in many of her paintings. She enjoys studying artists
works in close detail to examine successful colour combinations and different
use of paint and in order try to master her own techniques.
Whilst at
university Catherine took some time during the holidays to travel in Asia and
South Africa.
“I found the
different people and cultures exciting and inspiring particularly in Cambodia.
The warm people, fascinating ancient history and recent atrocities earned it a
place in my heart” 2006
In 2005
Catherine decided to quit her uninspiring office job and travelled slowly from
Malaysia, up through Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and China and finally settling
in South Korea where she taught English to Korean Children for six months.
Whilst in
Beijing she was fortunate to meet the great Lebanese artist - Wajih Nahle.
“I spent
the whole day with him picking his brains asking him questions and explaining my
own troubles as a young artist. He told me to devote my life to my painting and
paint everyday and that if I do this I will become a great painter.
Meeting a
successful artist made me realise that with hard work and dedication I could
turn dreams into reality. Since them I have been painting every day.” 2006
Catherine is currently
living in Leeds, developing her portfolio and promoting herself and her art on
an international level.
